The Holy Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus, i.e. Theognis, Rufus, Antipater, Theostychus, Artemas, Magnos, Theodolos, Thaumasios and Philemons came from different places. But they were all arrested together in Kyzikos during the period of the persecutions.
When they were brought before the local ruler they displayed admirable bravery and defiantly and courageously defended their faith. for this reason and to bend their strength they were thrown into prison. There without water and bread they prayed and glorified their Lord who deserved them to suffer for Him and one gave courage to the other.
When the ruler from prison asked them for the last time if they insist on believing in Christ, all of them “with one mouth and one heart” answered him that they prefer martyrdom to denying the Maker and Creator and Savior of the world. Enraged with rage, the lord immediately ordered their beheading, granting them heavenly glory.
